This was a sweet little read by a relatively new to me author.
He also appears to be relatively new to publishing as well. I'm always excited to find a new author, especially one who has obvious talent in writing the feelz.
The main character in this book has Cerebral Palsy, something I know next to nothing about and have never read before in a story. Sadly, many authors shy away from writing these sorts of character but God, the HEA because they overcame difficulties potential is
awesome.
Pageant did a very good job of getting me into Billy’s head; his fear, embarrassment and frustration with his physical limitations and how they impacted his actions when it came to romantic relationships. Bravo! I genuinely liked Billy and wanted him to have a HEA. All the cards were stacked against him yet he remained innocent, generous and genuine.
As the story was told entirely from Billy’s POV it was a bit difficult to get a handle on Seth as a character. In Billy’s eyes the guy was pretty much a walking god. Because of that you can understand Billy’s horror and anger when the *big thing* happens.
Because the story was so short I feel like there was development missing with the mother storyline, more about how Billy lived with and managed his CP and I would have liked to know more about Seth - his feelings and motivations. Sometimes the dialogue felt a bit stiff and formal, names were used in a repetitive manner but this did not take away from my enjoyment.
You can tell the talent is here, it’s just a matter of developing the craft. I look forward to more by this author.
