I've gotten out of the habit of reading het romances but in my heyday I was a lover of paranormal and urban fantasy type books. It's been several years since I read anything in this particular universe but I was able to pick the threads back up for the most part. I wouldn't recommend this be read out of order though.
It's a very interesting and complicated world that Alexis Morgan has built and I've always been pretty engaged in it. Over the course of the last 5 books I've connected more with some characters than others but overall I've been left satisfied. And I keep coming back for more.
For this installment I never really bought into the chemistry between Tate and Hunter and that left me feeling disappointed. I liked them both as individual characters. Hunter was brooding, hurting and a warrior alpha. Tate was strong willed, smart and courageous. As a couple they didn't work for me. The ending wrapped up too quickly and neatly, I was hoping for a bit more angst in the culmination of their relationship. Actually, I was more interested in the continuing Paladin story line and the mysteries wrapped up in that.
As a predominately M/M reader though I kept wanting a few of these guys to hook up though! *grin*
I've got a few more of these on my Nook app and I'm trying to work through my TBR pile so I'll finish up what I have. Right now, as I'm more enamored with M/M relationships I won't pick up anything new by this author or within this series. Of course that could change down the road.
